What is a heat exchanger?

A heat exchanger is a device built for efficient heat transfer from one fluid to another, whether the fluids are separated by a solid wall so that they never mix, or the fluids are directly contacted.

What is a TRU-TWISTTM tube?

Turbotec is the inventor and original manufacturer of the twisted tube, now called TRU-TWISTTM. Turbotec's TRU-TWISTTM twisted tube technology provides more surface area for a given length of tubing while creating a turbulent mixing action that results in a very high heat transfer through the tube walls. This assures the maximum amount of heat transfer in a compact package, dramatically increasing heat transfer efficiency up to 4 times the efficiency of smooth tubing.

Do you make prototypes?

Yes, Turbotec's engineering team works closely with your engineering staff to provide just the right enhanced heat transfer solution for virtually any application need. We utilize the latest design technologies and equipment to dramatically reduce new product development cycles

Do you have a catalog of "standard" tubes and coils?
Yes. Turbotec manufactures heat exchangers for each of its customers' requirements. Our Coil Section Guide is used to provide common tube and coil shapes, such as helical or spiral, and physical dimensions for your application.

Can Turbotec create a highly specific tube?
Our customers can sometimes present us with challenges. Our experienced staff is ready to address difficult requirements. Our customers help to fuel our drive for innovation.

What is the cost per foot for Tru-Twist™ tubing?
Turbotec's tubing is tailor-made to suit your needs. The cost varies depending on the material, thickness, size and process. We carefully review your request and custom design the heat exchanger that gives you the desired heat transfer, pressure drop, twist configurations, connection sizes, coil and tube sizes. We are available to provide a quote for each of your requests.

What materials can be used to create Tru-Twist™?
Turbotec currently twists, copper, titanium, cupro-nickel, aluminum, carbon steel, and stainless steel.

How is a tube twisted?
Turbotec is the inventor and original manufacturer of the twisted tube, called Tru-Twist™. Our proprietary twisting machinery enables us to remain at the forefront of heat transfer technology.

How many phases are in the development process?
Inquiry Phase - Our knowledgeable staff is ready to assist you with your application needs. A few questions will help us to complete a request for "Product Engineering and Quote"

Design Phase - Turbotec designs are specific to our customer's needs. We will provide a detailed proposal for prototype development. This will include quotes for a the prototype and production. Our customers approve the initial design prior to it's production.

Sample Phase - After approval from our customer, Turbotec manufactures functional samples from the approved designs. All our samples are lab tested for best performance.

Test Phase - Our customers test and evaluate the product "in action" with their equipment. Data on true operation is collected for us to further align our product for the required results.

What is the wait time for obtaining samples?
Our samples are made based on your specific application. Depending on material availability, labor, and available time to use our proprietary machinery, receipt of your sample can be immediate if key components are in stock, but typically average about 6 weeks.

What is the cost for a prototype?
Prototypes parts are going to be more expensive than production parts. They are custom made for specific needs. The cost will include set up time and tooling charges.

What is the lead time for production?
Our customers have the opportunity to experience world-class service. A carefully coordinated plan is laid out in advance that will include lead-time for material, tooling, fabrication, and freight. Lead time for established customers can be less than a week.
